Provence
Sadly no. I have not been to Provence lately, but a girl can always dream can't she? In this case Provence refers to the Annie Sloan chalk paint colour I have used lately. With a rather happy result, if I may say so...?
I have had this old bookcase, inherited from hubby's grandmother, in our hallway for ages. The hallway is narrow, and so is the bookcase, making it work perfectly in the rather confined space.
It houses my ever expanding collection of decorating magazines, and does the job beautifully. Apart from its rather dreary "boring brown" colour. Now you may recall I very nearly "declared war" against the "bb" in my house last summer, after having discovered the aforementioned Annie Sloan paints.
Last August I painted our dining table in Cricket, which really is Provence (heavily) diluted with Old White. Leaving me with nearly a whole litre of straight Provence, to do with as I please. Above you can testify the result. Below is the starting point. I think I rather like Provence. And there is still a bit of it left in the pot...

Very nicely turned out! But tell me, before painting you clean off paint from the surface?
Utrolig fint, Mia! Skikkelig inspirerende!

It is SO beautiful! Unfortunately my husband doesn't share my vision of painting BB furniture. But, I can still enjoy your beautiful projects. :-)

That Provence blue is a beautiful shade, either full strength or diluted. Mia, you clearly understand how this chalk paint can transform familiar furniture.
You've got a lovely sense of balance, knowing how to mix modern with traditional in many areas of your home. I suspect that you've already encouraged many readers to take up their paint brushes and let magic unfold...as the paint dries.
Best wishes. xo
I do like how your cabinet turned out - but as the owner of a house full of antiques with beautiful wood finishes, I can't imagine painting any of them! :-) But to each his own.. and I do love your light bright home. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
What a beautiful piece of furniture
Mia. I love tha painted version espcially the little touches of wood peeking through.

I love the way it was before but love it more with the blue! It definitely brings out the details of the piece. Can I come live with you?!! Your house is always so cheery looking! Keep the pictures coming...
La transformation est superbe. J'aime beaucoup. Bon week end.
I could just 'drink up' these photos, you've done a brilliant job. Did you wax or varnish it? Finished my first crochet cushion! :) x
Wat is die mooi geworden Mia.
Så nydelig! Du har en kjempefin blogg, og jeg vil gjerne følge deg, men finner ikke ut hvordan...
Oh Mia! The colour is pretty and fiendly. Just heavenly Provencal.
Have a nice weekend!
Christel

turned out fantastic dont you just love paint ! ehe.. when it is done ;O))) this is awsome great colour
Hi Irina!
I am glad you like the way the bookcase turned out. Thank you for your comment.
The beauty of Annie Sloan chalk paint is that there is no need for sanding, priming etc before painting. You can paint directly on any clean surface, be it varnish, old paint or untreated wood.
Hi Ada!
So glad you like my photos ;-)
With Annie Sloan paint you are well advised to wax the surface after having painted it. Only if the newly painted piece is designated for outdoor use is it best left unwaxed. Other than that wax really is called for. As I have done with all my pieces.
Hei Edny!
