Decorations so far

I seem to struggle with my Christmas decorations this year... One day it is all colour, even a bit retro.

And then the following day there is the desire for something more simple and rustic, which seems to be the case today. Simple and rustic...

Maybe it is all the glitter, colour and excess decorating that we see most everywhere around this time of year that has the opposite effect on me...

All of a sudden less really seems to be more. Is it just me, or can you relate to my line of thinking...?

So this is how our little home is looking at the moment, in its festive glory (LOL)

Keeping calm and keeping it simple... Wishing you all a lovely run up to the holiday season.

Hello Mia, I seem to just be adding a few decorations day by day, but mine are of the mad, colourful variety! I long for the serenity of your home, it just looks so simple, clean and pure, yet comforting and homely at the same time.

Must get back to the job in hand!

I'm feeling much the same as you. I'm trying to keep it simple, especially with the outside decorations.

I very, very much relate to how you feel, Mia! I've been astounded, this year, at how desperately commercial this holiday is for some. Perhaps, it's always been like that but, somehow, it's just in my face, this year. So, I'm craving gentle and quiet, natural and real, myself - both in my decorations and my activities. Also, we have no money. erp! =/ But, that's not necessarily a sad thing. =] With no snow, yet, I'm going out to the woods with the wheelbarrow to get branches and moss and twigs. I, actually, feel so much hope and joy from this whole season, this year. and, well, I hope that you can see how that all fits together - it really does. =]

Another funny little thing.... a few years back, I bought a bunch of white decorations for my tree but, this year, I've noticed how gold the room is that the tree is in. This is silly but, suddenly, I was wondering if it really went together - the yellow and white (it doesn't REALLY matter but you know... we think about these things. ;)) However, looking at your photos here - I see white and yellowy-gold together - just like my living room! and it's BEAUTIFUL! =] Thanks for answering that little question that's been sitting in the back of my mind. I told you it was silly.... =]

Thanks for sharing your home with us - it's really quite refreshing and encouraging. Just lovely and festive! =]

I'm with you Mia - I prefer to keep it simple and natural but it doesnt always work! We have our burst of colour with the colourful family tree, but the real tree will be decorated simply with white lights and white decs with maybe a touch of red. The rest of the house will be decked in greenery from the garden, and natural hessian, linen and gingham decs.
Your house is looking lovely with its simple decorations - i love the wreath!

Hi Mia, I have always liked the simple even a bit rustic way of decorating. The less is more theory is so true as it's warm and inviting, especially this time of year. The retro is fine for spring/ summer, but color tends to be too much for me this time of year!

Hey Mia, I love your house and the decoration absolute coherent. In our house, it has to twinkle and glittering at Christmas, with candles, fairy lights and silver, there are traditions maintained, old treasures come out and warm the heart and the eye. Simple and clear, means summer :)

Mia, your home is growing more beautiful with every item you add to your Christmas look. The natural additions are perfect in the gentle daylight, and with candlelight are transformed.

I do agree with your line of thinking. xo

I agree with you! I get overwhelmed with the excessive decorating I see everywhere. For me, a bit of red, the tree, candles and simples greens are comforting.

Hi Mia, For me..too much is too
much! I have to feel calmness and serenity in my home. That's what makes me happy. Your home looks serene and very comfortable. Being festive doesn't always mean going crazy over the top. Happy Holidays to you. penny x

Hi Mia, I enjoy your serene surroundings. I'm all for celebrating the season in any way that pleases you. I use lots of color, but it's always my hope that I don't go overboard.

Hello, Mia.... I'm back! =]

I just wanted to tell you....

You know, I haven't been thinking too deeply about 'themes' for my homes decorations - it's just been in the back of my mind - like I mentioned up above. But, now, I've been noticing on Pinterest how many pretty images I've pinned that have fresh white - glowing golden candlelight and blue light shining through in all of the images (my living room walls are just that blueish lavender.) and, suddenly - I'm inspired!!! I've got the creative juices flowing now. All from this little post! =D

It's just cheery and I thought I'd tell you!

Merry, merry! =]

Hi Mogis Cottage!

I am so glad you like my tablecloth. I have, in fact, made the patchwork tablecloth myself. Maybe you can make one for yourself too...?

Mia sa...

Hi Ladibug!

My cones are a "souvenir" from my holiday in Ireland this summer, and I only have these five. I am afraid our Norwegian cones are nothing spectacular, and really not worth sending abroad. But thank you for your kind offer, just the same.

Hi Mia,
Now and then I like a bit of color but the beautiful combination of natural woods, baskets, some twinkling lights and a touch of evergreen sends my spirit. Beautiful and calm, back to nature basics. Your home looks just beautiful! Love the blue and white with all the natural elements!

Greetings from Elsie in Texas
