Status quo

Why is it so tempting, so easy, to start something new before finishing what you already have got going...? Before I start yet another patchwork project (I am so itching to...) I better take stock of what I have yet to finish. Like this blue and white nine patch one, started about a year ago, and reached to this stage around May this year. Still missing its final border, wadding and backing.

Then, of course, there is the blue and white hexagon quilt I started earlier this autumn. Now no one would surely expect (myself the very least!) me to finish this one in a jiffy! It is after all hand stitched, and everyone knows these things take their time. Right...?

Speaking of hand stitching... there is also this hand stitched lilac and white diamond number, started last summer (if my memory serves me right) and actually got to this stage back in May. This one too is still missing its finishing borders, wadding and backing. Oh dear...

Now this vintage looking thrifty thing has really not done too badly, as it has only(!) taken me since this summer to get to this stage. Again, it is missing its borders. Now that has now been solved, though, as there is this old Cath Kidston fabric. And then a lovely reader, Jola from Poland, kindly sent me the pretty blue and white polka dot fabric. Just the thing, so I might actually finish this one in the foreseeable future!

And then we get to the final issue... the desire to start something new. Can I really justify it, when I have so many unfinished projects? But these vintage fabrics are just "speaking to me", and I am dying to get my hand on the pretty retro ones Ada sent me some time ago. I can just see them in a new lovely, vintagey hexie quilt. Can´t you...?

Hard to say which one of your Wip's I prefer... they are all so lovely!!

Be a devil, start a new one ;-)

How can you resist?

You just have to go for it ;-)

Hei Mia!
Kjenner meg selv altfor godt igjen i dine veldig vakre, men uferdige quilter. Dersom du starter med hexagons bør du prøve den nye metoden med "limpenn". Den sparer deg en arbeidsoperasjon.

Vakkert,vakkert.
Ha en fin dag Mia.

Beautiful! I am thinking we are heading into winter, if you desire to start the new one, do it. You will have the long winter months to finish all of them I bet! Can't wait to see the vintage fabrics come together...enjoy!

All really beautiful Mia ... I am always impatient to start something new before finishing the old project! Your home looks so beautifully serene with its pale and pastel colour scheme ... it's making me itch to get my paintbrushes out!

Have a Terrific Tuesday

Why don't you have a quilting bee?
The pioneers in my country did these.
Invite some craft-y friends over with THEIR unfinished projects & help each other finish! Serve coffee, eat cookies & enjoy one another!

Beginning a new project is ALWAYS a fun thing to do! Enjoy your new fabric!

Finishing something gives a great feeling of satisfaction. But starting something new is an adventure.

It's nice to see someone else who has many projects on the go. I sometimes despair of finishing things. Then I set myself a goal and soon, it's done and I feel great. And start another one.

Your palette is so beautiful. Blue and white are my favourites.

Ooooh such lovely unfinished projects and the fabric you have to start something new are just lovely! No wonder you are having such a difficult time deciding.....I say start something new as winter is fast approaching so there will be plenty of time to finish all the others.

Isn't it good to have unlimited imagination and enthusiasm? The follow through, completing bits usually fall into place eventually.

It's having that initial spark that makes the magic happen!

Every one of your projects is a treasure. xo

I love the diamond quilt! All of them look done. Does that count?

As long as there's room in the craft closet there's room to start another project. I bet those quilts don't even take up that much room when they're folded up. Maybe only 1 shelf? Plenty of room for more material :)

So I'm not the only one with the a pile of unfinished projects? that's good to know. All you WIP are gorgeous, I love hand-stitched patchwork. Just keep being creative as you are very talented. Sam xx

I'm with Sam - I also have a pile of unfinished projects. Apparently I am much better at starting projects than finishing them...
And I agree with everyone else - they're amazing so of course we'd all love to see what else you'll come up with.

It is so beautiful! Especially white and blue combination, my favorite.

Hi Mia
I think everyone who makes quilts has lots of unfinished objects. My friend from New Zealand calls them PhDs ( projects half done). She says "I'm working on my PhD". That sounds so much better than admitting you have lots of unfinished quilting projects :)
Good luck with them!
