Summer holiday
I am a homebody and like nothing better than to potter around my little home and garden. And never more so than in the summer. Yet every now and then it is good to get away from it all, to explore new places and to appreciate different scenery.
So we decided to take a little holiday "out west", an area famous for its beauty, its steep mountains and deep fjords. Geiranger has a special place in my heart, as it is where I spent my very first summer in Norway. I have been back a few times since then, the last visit was four years ago.
This time we decided to travel even a bit further after Geiranger, to Ålesund (once voted the most beautiful town in Norway), famous for its Jugend architecture (the result of re-building the place after a disastrous fire in 1904, which burned down almost the entire town).
Ålesund is truly a beautiful place to visit, especially on a lovely summer´s day. The weather "out west" is fickle, prone to grey skies and rainy days. But we were indeed lucky, and enjoyed the beauty of the place to the full.
We took the route via "Trollstigen" on our way home, a road not for the faint hearted, as it clings to the steep mountain side with very little to give one a sense of security. But we did make it safely back home. Again am I able to enjoy the gentle landscape around our smallholding. Good to be back home!

What a lovely place !
How beautiful Norway is!
Enjoy the rest of your holiday at home.

Breathtaking scenery. Sounds like a wonderful trip, but as you say, it always feels good to get back home. Take care, Heather
Such a lovely country, I wish I´ll be there!
Nydelig landskap !
Borte bra men hjemme best, ja, det utsagnet gjelder for de fleste.
Moro å finne bloggen din "åpen" igjen, og at du blogger igjen - alltid en fryd å kikke innom deg, Mia:)
Ciao
Thank you for sharing the beautiful Norwegian scenery with us. :)

Mia, did you take these photos? They are absolutely breathtaking!! I cannot imagine seeing such glorious sights. So glad you were able to get away for a little holiday - always so good for the soul. Norway is a beautiful beautiful country.

Breath takingly beautiful, you are so lucky to have gone there! Ada :)
Mia, these photographs show such spectacularly beautiful scenery. I imagine that the air must be incredible also?
The photograph with the overview of Alesund reminds me of children's drawings, or perhaps even old wooden toys that were shaped like villages. (There is currently an exhibit at NYC's own Museum of Modern Art (www.MoMA.org) called Century of the Child: Growing by Design, 1900-2000, that includes some of these charming pictures and toys. There is a book that accompanies the exhibit.
To actually see one of the places that inspired such miniature wooden villages would be remarkable. And so, I thank you so much for your excellent photography!

I love your first photo, the scenery is stunning!

Thank you for posting such beautiful pictures. They bring back wonderful memories of visiting Norway as a student (gosh, twenty years ago!) and staying in a little log cabin in the Flam valley *sigh* lovely! x
