Moose, kelims and some such

An other beautiful winter´s day today. I went for a long walk in the woods today, making my way through the snow covered ground. Snow is such a wonderful thing, making the woods come alive before my very eyes, as I marveled at the various footprints I saw. Creatures great and small; moose, deer, foxes, rabbits and tiny woodland mice had left traces of their goings on in the snow.

Not just traces either, as I saw a large bird of prey (could it have been the one that was the end of Klara Klok?) and a couple of moose, that crossed my path. I am in awe of these magnificent creatures. Usually moose are harmless enough (unless you come across them in their mating season, or when they have young ones) and the two I saw today quickly made a run for it when they saw me (just as well, or I would have soon enough been the one on the run!)

Home again, safe and sound, I decided to bring down the kelim rug from the attic again. If you think you have seen these pictures before, you are not far wrong, as they look very much like the ones from last September. Back then the rug lasted about a day, but this time I think it is in for a longer run.

For one, since I started working on my last crochet project (that incorporates the "dreaded" orange) I kept seeing images of this very kelim in my head. Once it came down from the attic I could not help but notice how well the two of them work together. Also, kelims seem to be "in" again. Not that I really care about such things, but seeing I have such a treasure in my possession it kind of makes sense to let it "shine" again, don´t you think?

Mia your living room interior is like a spring garden...so many lovely colors, I feel happy peeking around at all your lovely fabrics and works of art that you´ve made!

As an American I´m totally in awe of the moose when I see them. I usually walk with my dogs and am scared to death to meet a moose with my dogs as they think they are tough enough to take on a moose- even though I know they aren´t, I don´t want them to try! So I enjoy most to see the moose from my living room window or in a field I pass with my car...hopefully far away from the road so they don´t dash out in front of my car!!!

Have a lovely weekend Mia :-)

Hi Mia, I love your rug, it brings warmth and brightness to your room, like a pretty sunset. Your new crochet will look lovely with it! It is such a happy room!

We don't have moose here, but there are some a little more north. I would love to be walking in the woods and see one! What a thrill.

Have a happy weekend! xx

I love the orange in both the rug and the crochet.. I would think the lively colors of them would brighten you snow winter room. Too bad you didn't get a photo of your moose.. that would have been fun to see!

Mia, this Kilem fan says yes, do keep that beauty around this winter. The colors are lovely and definitely give an extra spark to your other exquisite colorways.

Let me add that I cannot imagine encountering a moose! I love the way that you describe how moose and humans find a way to be wary of each other, when not threatened.

Hello! =]

Firstly, the soft colors and the soft light in your room is so lovely!

Then, that rug looks like something out of one of my Laura Ashley decorating books. Perhaps you know what I mean? You're a devotee, too. Do you have a huge pile of those decorating books from the 1990s? If I have a chance, I'll see if I can find it easily. I've been wanting to look through them again, anyway. Well, not that you need me to...

Then, wow that you saw a moose!!!

I had never seen a moose until I went to Maine (which is a bit more north and extremely sparsely populated). Also, I'm from LA, originally. Then, this past summer, on our evening walk, my MIL and I saw a young bull moose. She grew up here but had never seen a moose. They're so cool, aren't they? Just amazing!

Wonderful days!

Hi Mia,
It's been a while since the last time we wrote you. We're the Spanish friends that follows your wonderful blog…now we are full time moms of a 2 old years kid and 6 months baby and we daydream with meet you some day in your cottage and have a tea with you. Also we're a bit curious to know if you have any helping of a cleaner to look after all the nice stuff you knit and your home because it looks always just perfect!. Living with small children is so fun but also stressful sometimes and we can't have all our vintage and shabby stuff at their little hands reach! :P
Lots of love,
Rosana+ Raquel

I love reading your blog, and had to laugh of your description of your lovely country walk! Coming close to a moose!!
I cannot imagine seeing one on my country walks in the uk!
The largest thing you would see here is a lone cow in the distance or squirrels in the trees!
I think you are very brave to not turn and run! I'm sure I would!
Carry on with your lovely blog,I love reading about your lovely home and garden.xx

Hej Mia.
