There are new kids on our block... or rather two new roosters. Such handsome fellows. They have replaced "the fierce one", who was getting far too protective of the hens for his own good.
So the poor bugger ended in the pot, while these two brothers have taken his place. Now these new kids are of a gentle nature, a joy to have around, yet just as popular with the ladies, as the "fierce one" was.
Our winter so far has been a very mild one, with only the odd snowfall, that seems to disappear within a day or two. I do not mind, and neither do our feathery friends.
Usually they are incarcerated in the henhouse all winter long, not being able to set foot outdoors for months on end, due to all the snow (that they do not appreciate).
Not so this year. And they sure are making the most of it, spending every daylight hour outdoors, roaming the grounds, where they are able to scratch the ground to find the odd treasure, and some (not so) green grass.

Boy, I love your roosters. The are the George Clooney in the henhouse...
What handsome brothers! I hope the fierce fellow made a nice dinner at least, and that these boys stay as gentle as they are now. They certainly have a following amongst the ladies!
Have you found having two roosters causes fights?
They are very handsome (not quite as handsome as my Rory - I have to say that as a proud rooster mummy)
Love Leanne
Du er selgsagt velkommen i 2012 også! :-)
Hi Leanne! I do not usually have more than one rooster in the henhouse, but a friend gave me these two, and she did not want to separate them as they were brothers and had always been together. And truth be told, I have yet to see them fight. They seem to be the best of friends, yet each have their own little group of ladies, rather like a harem each. Seems to work for them.
What handsome young men! Lucky hens. Looks like most places are having a mild winter, except poor Alaska.
We're having our first taste of real winter weather here today, with a few inches of snow on the ground. Our hens will not be impressed!
Hola Mía belleza de animal estos son hermosos y bien grandes!, te dejo un beso Sandra.
Tøffe typer! Håper alt er bra med deg, og ønsker en god helg videre!
Hi, very nice fellows. I would like to cuddle them. I dont think they like snow, I hope they stay friends and do not get into a fight about the ladies.
Have a nice weekend Tina
love your new boys..will they be allowed to become daddies?..if so they will have very attractive chicklets..
I just found your blog via pinterest... and it is gorgeous! What lovely projects you make, and your home looks so welcoming.
Gosh they look massive! I'm used to bantams, so full sized Cockerels scare the heck out of me.
I hope they settle in really well!

Mia, you new feathered brothers are so handsome, and all your photos of them and their harems are quite wonderful. They make me want to do a drawing of them, just to try to show how all those glossy feathers grow.
Glad that all of the brood are having opportunities to venture outdoors in early January.
xo

Such a handsome roosters.
Your blog it's so amazingd, I'd love him:) - greatings from Poland
They are beautiful !!!! How did the fierce one taste---tough I bet :)
I've just come across your blog and am enjoying reading it and your lovely photos. I especially like the idea of collecting moss for the hyacinths and paperwhites. I'll have to remember that for next christmas.
Ja nå lever damene livet forstår jeg! Tenk å ha to høye mørke kjekke rundt seg på en gang!
Our winter has been strangely mild, too - until this weekend, that is. Happily we have six inches of snow to slightly mulch the garden. It was -11F/-24C this morning. But, it has been still the same story with the hens...except....our handsome Jack was removed but not replaced....
Your new fellows look very handsome and charismatic, indeed, and it looks like the hens think so, too!;)
Isn't life with chickens a funny thing?
bendita suerte de vivir en ese paraiso!amor y paz para vos!
