The first snow

Autumn has been unusually mild this year. Apparently the mildest one since they started recording such things, some 100 years ago. Which is quite a contrast to last year, when the unusually severe winter set in early November (making it the coldest November in 100 years).

Truth be told I have quite enjoyed the mild weather, and have not longed for snow. That is until now, when the fast approaching Christmas has made me dream of a white world (there is only so much I can take of the darkness, and now that the sun sets around 3 pm, and it is more or less pitch dark by 3.30, I long for some light).

To my delight it started to snow last night, the very first snowfall this winter. And it continued to snow throughout the night till this morning. Once the clouds drifted away the sun came out and shone from a clear blue sky.

How can I not love the snow? It makes the whole world (from where I stand) look so pretty and squeaky clean. And Christmassy. I wonder if it is too early to start dreaming of a white Christmas...?

Such beautiful photos, I enjoyed each one. The blue sky and sunshine, the snow and the lovely buildings make the prettiest of winter scenes.
Keep cosy.

Oh how beautiful. There's something magical about the first snow. And I love the way it brightens up the landscape. We rarely get snow here but I love it when we do.

I love the smell of the air after the first snow! Soon we'll reach the shortest day, and then little by little the light will return.

Oh Mia, it was dark and rainy here in New York today, but I do have to say that the faint sunlight did continue past 3:30. That really does seem very early for sunset!

The glow that fresh snow gives is truly marvelous. xo

Your story of snow is funny, Mia! We had snow on Halloween, this year - A LOT of snow. but it melted. We had a foot a Thanksgiving and thought for sure we wouldn't see the ground till spring. Christmas, we were praying for snow and got just enough to cover the ground and cast that beautiful glow into the house. but, now, in the new year - it looks JUST like spring. I don't know what to say or think about it!

One good thing about that early snow, though - it lit a fire in my heart to get ready for Christmas early which did help me to get everything ready in a beautifully timely manner. I was happy to read your post saying the same for you - things done early = Peace! =]
