Does it sing...?

My latest woolly blanket is growing, slowly but surely. And I keep adding colours to it as I go. I started out with more or less the same colours as in the cushion to the left, but soon found out that I needed more.

I have added lighter colours, as for a while I felt it was getting a bit too dark (for my taste). Then I felt that it did not "sing", and needed a bit of razzmatazz, so I bought some bright yellow and orange wool.

But they did not work for me (I guess I am not quite daring and bold enough...?) so I returned the wool to the store and replaced them with more lilac and light green.

The squares are a joy to knit, while watching the news or just taking a break with a cup of tea. And a ball of wool is easy to bring along when going for a visit (yes, I always need to bring something along...)

I still have some 50 squares left to knit. So there is a chance to add more colours. Even though I do quite like the look of it so far I do not hear any "singing". But then again maybe I do not need to. What do you think...?

Its beautiful....like everything you create:) I made a similiar blanket about 20 years ago which we all have loved and used. It has now gone with my son to college this year, and still going strong!

I love the colours you have, and for me the pale turquoise sings a little. However, it could sing just a touch more but not too loudly. So maybe that orange or yellow might be nice - just a very gentle lift or warmth added, but nothing too over-powering.

I appreciate very much all your works! I love especially the grandmom square pillow in the left and the light colors.
Have a nice day

All looking beautiful!
Those cushions look so good against your faded denim chair and fottstool, and so cosy and inviting!

My daughter who has a really good feeling for colour looked at it and said without thinking: Yellow! Not bright, but yellow.

Live all green tomatto in a warm place at home in the box and cover by something made of wool like blanket. All will be red after some time.

It´s beautiful as it is, but maybe I would add a light grey or a bit darker grey/taupe, so that the other colours come out more expressive!
Have a lovely evening

I would add light, powdery blue/gray and perhaps a very pale gray as well.
It's lovely, but looks just a bit too Eastery right now. Yellow would make it more of a baby blanket.

Spennende!

I think what you've got is just perfect! I keep wondering how you'll connect them. I look forward to seeing the finished product and have enjoyed watching this project grow!
((hugs)), Teresa :-)

Frances sa...

Ah Mia, Teresa has posed my question about how you plan to join the knitted squares. If you do it by crocheting, you'll have the opportunity to introduce another color or value to the design of this beautiful blanket.

I know that sometimes I will introduce a color that is not one of my natural choices into a project, just to see if sparks fly or some new harmony results.

Isn't color fun?

I love it. Yellow though really does make patchwork sing. Perhaps a soft lemon colour? from Cherrie, who used to hate yellow till she had a go at patchwork!

Pondside sa...

Mia, could you please tell me how many stitches you cast on, and your needle size?

Hi you all! Thank you so much for your thoughts and suggestions. I just might add one or two of your suggested colours. And keep you posted.

"Hvorfor ikke" & "Pondside": I cast 27 stitches on needle size 3,5 and knit 27 rows (times two). The finished square measures app. 12 cm.

jodie sa...

Mia, I really like what you have put together. I won't think to use such colours together, but I like it. I keep thinking, maybe.... but then I check the photo and you have the colour there. Are you going to crochet them together? perhaps then you can incorporate the lemon you mentioned. x

millefeuilles sa...

I think the colours are magical and, yes, I am sure the yellow will add a spot of starlight to your blanket. I too have started a blanket (inspired by the illustrator Silke Leffler's muted but cheerful colours) so it is so encouraging to see another blanket in the making.

Greetings from France.

Oh those knitted squares look beautiful in the layout for the blanket, the combination is great.

You have inspired me to create my own cover - but I only have about 20 squares done so far! I'm using up wool that I already have in my stash and they are very similar to yours - but now I've bought some pale grey to add to the mix and it looks just right. Don't think mine will be finished for Christmas though! I love enerything that you make - just wish I had more time in my days. Best wishes

Hei Mia..

I am very very interesting to see how you will join these squares. I have knitted one to my daughter and after two tries, they are still waiting to be joined...
So, I'am waiting!
Thanks in advance.

Please share with me the dimension of each block you have knitted (possibly your pattern)?

Thanks, I love your blog and creations.

Hei Mia!
Igjen innom deg og beundrer håndarbeid, og din tålmodighet. Nesegrus beundring her! Synes teppet er superfint, synger fine fargetoner gjennom skjermen her.

forresten mange fine prosjekter i bloggen din :-)

Hi Michle!

I do not have a pattern as such. I just cast 27 stitches on needle size 3,5 and knit 27 rows (times 2). The finished square measures app. 12 cm.

Good luck with your knitting. And thank you for your kind words.
